Man City resilience pleases Pellegrini

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has praised his side after they recovered from the early setback of losing captain Vincent Kompany to go on and beat Hull City, BBC Sport has reported.

Just 10 minutes into the game at the KC Stadium, the game looked to have swung in favour of the home side as Kompany was sent off by referee Lee Mason for dragging down Nikica Jelavic as he attempted to burst through on goal.

However, David Silva put Man City ahead with a fine curling shot just minutes later, and Hull struggled to create clear chances to make their numerical advantage count, mainly due to strong defensive organisation from the visitors, who clinched the three points in the final minute of normal time through Edin Dzeko.

And Pellegrini was full of praise for his team after the game. He said: "It was a very good response. It was a very difficult week. And then we had to start this game playing with one player less after 10 minutes. It was more difficult to play with 10 players but I trust the team, I trust the players and I think we did really well with the ball."

"I trust my players and the team. We kept the ball very well today - and without the ball you cannot make damage. We scored an important goal and had three clear chances to score another goal. I don't remember any clear chances for Hull."
